First Pages Of The book 1 - 58 pages

I had a wondering when reading the books first pages. What happened causing the character to think this way? I soon realised the character's name was Callie she had step parents and a step sister. I was still not sure what happened during her time but she stated something about the 'change'. This led to me thinking if it was a virus that had impacted on her and the world. The heart breaking event in the first pages of the story was how her step sister Gracie had been infected. The fact that her step sister meant everything to her was touching but when quarantine would take her it was suspenseful. Another suspenseful element of this book is how Callie would risk herself and try to save Gracie from Quarantine. On page 39 it states how green traceries cross the horizon which were the capsules of the change but I wonder where did they come from?
