Chinese Cinderella

The story Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah is about a 12 year old  Chinese girl named CC who has been kicked out of her Shanghai home because she bit her step mother even though her step mother was abusing her and she used self-defence. She can not go to her Big Aunt because she has gone to another island because she has hurt her leg and needs someone to look after her. Now in the book she has been welcomed into a martial arts academy called the secret dragon society and has been starting to learn kung fu. She has met some friends along the way like Grandma Wu and 3 boys name Marat, Sam and David. CC has become an official member of the dragon society and is currently on a mission to help the Americans from the Japanese and their planes.

So far in Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah it has hooked me in and I'm really engaged into it as I want to know what happens next. I have found it interesting and entertaining but sometimes I had empathy and felt sorrow hearing the boys stories and CC getting thrown out of her own home because she used self defence. I was really overjoyed when CC came to her new home (Secret Dragon Society) because she met her friends and I found some hidden themes including friendship and loyalty.

Some things I like about the book is that it has primary sources like a chinese zodiac chart and symbols like the ying and yang. It also has chinese characters and has english to help me translate what they are saying. I found these really intresting as I learn new things that I did not know before. I really like how it is very desciptive and that helps me to understand it more and I can visualise the setting or scene they are in. My overall opinion is that it is a engaging book that never fails to hook me in because it is very intresting and uses descriptive language but on the other hand it gets very emotional and upsetting that is what i dislike. If I have to be honest some parts Iget disengaged because when they talk up martial arts i'm not really intresting. Overall this book is really engaging!
