Chinese Cinderella

The story Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah is about a 12 year old  chinese girl named CC who has been kicked out of her Shanghi home because she bit her step mother even though her step mother was abusing her and she used self-defence. She can not go to her Big Aunt because she has gone to another island because she has hurt her leg and needs someone to look after her. Now in the book she has been welcomed into a martial arts academy called the secret dragon society and has been starting to learn kung fu. She has met some friends along the way like Grandma Wu and 3 boys name Marat, Sam and David who has been kind to her. In this book I up to where she is writing a newletter for the academy for Sunday school as thats the only thing she knows how to do because she cant cook, clean or do any martial arts because she has just started but she can only read and write because she goes school. 

Some themes I think are presented are friendship, loyalty and family. I think these all link because the Martial Arts academy welcomed her like a family. I also think friendship because shehas met some new friends like Marat, Sam and David. The story has been set when the Japanese had invaded China and China had not gained its independance so she had to find somewhere to stay thats why she came to the Martial Arts Academy.

Some inferences I made was that I infer she will move back with Big Aunt and Big with her three friends and it will be happily ever after. I infer this because in the story it says she had a dream about it and in the actual Cinderella story it has a happily ever after. I also infer that her and her 3 acrobatic friends go onto a mission. I infer this because they are very atheltic and CC is currently learning kung fu and doing exersices.

Some parts I get hooked in because you want to know what happens next but other times I dis engage because it gets boring. I like how the Chinese parts get translated into english and it teaches me about chinese zodiac and the ying and yand and how theres a bit of the otherenergy in each other which was amazing and I found it very intresting because I always wanted to know what that ying and yand symbol meant and know I know what it means. I like how it gives you primary sources.
