Miss Peregrines home for peculiar children
This term in Literacy groups we have been starting to read the book Miss Peregrines Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs.
We have been introduced to Jacob, the main character in the story.
We have also been introduced to Jacobs grandfather who as a child had to escape from his home, Poland because of the Nazis as Grandfather said on pg 21 " the peculiarity for which we'd been hunted for was simply Jewishness" the Nazis killed Jewish in the holocausts.
Jacobs grandfather had recently just been murdered by the "monsters" he escaped from when he was a child. Grandfather would always tell Yakob ( I have inferred Yakob is Jacob in polish since his grandfather was polish) stories of the people in his old home in Wales and the caretaker ,a bird who smoked a pipe, and I have also inferred that the bird was metaphoric as Peregrine is a name for a falcon and I saw a picture of a lady, Miss Peregrine who was smoking a pipe and so it could be the reason why his grandfather used to say a bird who smoked a pipe guarded the house but it actually was a woman named Miss Peregrine.
We have also been introduced to some peculiar children. The main one I believe that will impact the story is the girl on the front who is levitating as she could have a big role in the story otherwise why would she be on the front cover
Jacob and his father have just taken a trip to Cairnholm, the place where his grandfather grew up in the children's home with Miss Peregrine although most of them would be as old as his grandfather was and older.
In their first night at Cairnholm they sleep at a pub in the area, Jacob is awake and hears all these loud noises, but all of a sudden at 10 o'clock the noises stop. Why did the noises stop at exactly 10 o'clock? Was it because the monsters came out at that time?
I predict Jacob will find the home after and realise no one is there and he came all this way for nothing but in actual fact Miss Peregrine and the children are living in the house but no one can see them.
