The garden of empress cassia is a wonderful book about a young  girl named Mimi. I can make alot of connections with this book as it is about art and I enjoy to work on art works in my spare time just like Mimi does. I also have parents that constently push me to do my best in school like Mimi's parents. Later in this book Mimi obtains color pastels that are capable of imprisoning others into an art work known as the garden of four seasons .Mimi wants to be like a normal australian kid but her parents treat her as a chinese girl as they want her to be proud of her culture. Mimi's parents want her to do well at school and for her to avoid all distractions to a good education.Later on in the story Mimi attends a festival known as awakening the dragon were she receives a letter that aske's her to meet someone named Old Ma to discuss the power of the garden of empress cassia pastels. Mimi is notified that in the wrong hands the pastels are very dangerous and that she needs to keep them safe. Mimi also discovers that no matter how long she draws for the pastels never go blunt and always look new. Mimi's sick uncle Ting passed away and Mimi's dad has been acting differently ever since. Mimi has a pet puppy named peppy and Mimi suspects that her uncle tings soul is in peppy. One of the students at Mimi's school bully her because of her culture this girl is named gemma.
